Home court was no advantage for the Catoosa girls basketball team Friday afternoon in the regional consolation elimination game with Rogers County rival Inola. Inola scored the first eight points of the game, led by as many as 12 and held off a late rally to beat the Lady Indians 58-53, eliminating Catoosa from the playoffs with a record of 11-14. The Lady Longhorns advance to play at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the consolation semifinals against the loser of Locust Grove and Victory Christian. After an 8-0 lead, the Lady Longhorns stayed at arm’s length, and the Lady Indians couldn’t get much closer than the 33-23 halftime score. In the third quarter, Catoosa finally started hitting its stride. At the end of the period, Brittan Garrett hit two free throws with 1:25 remaining to cut the Inola lead to 46-40. Cheyenne Sanders scored to get it even closer, 46-42, to start the fourth quarter. A Skylar Peaster bucket with 5:23 left in the game made it a 46-44 game, and Catoosa was on the doorstep. After a Halley Gilmore bucket for Inola, Garrett hit a 3-pointer for Catoosa and the deficit had been cut to one, 48-47 with 4:32 to play. But Kelsie Roberts, the smallest player on the court, came up big with back-to-back 3-pointers, and the Lady Horns were back up 54-47 with 3:25 to play. But Inola suffered a setback as Lillie Walker fouled out. The six-foot center had 13 points that were now on the bench, and Catoosa took advantage. Garrett cut the lead back to 54-52 with a trey and a pair of charity shots with under two minutes to play. But that was as close as the Lady Indians would get. A Gilmore free throw and a pair of Roberts freebies made it 57-52 with 56.7 left. Peaster hit one free throw for Catoosa with 42.4 left, but the tribe would score no more. Garrett led Catoosa with 21 points. Cheyenne Sanders had 11 and Peaster scored 10. Inola was paced by Roberts, who scored 18 points. Marley Jo Eaves and Walker with 13 points.
