OFFENSE
A lot of what happens with the Longhorn offense will depend on how quickly sophomore quarterback Landon Prows matures this season.

“He’s an exciting prospect that had a tremendous junior high career and saw some action last year as a freshman,” said coach Jeff Williams.

Prows will certainly have a talented and experienced crew of receivers led by the speedy Wyatt Oliver (6-0, 165, Sr.) who piled up over 800 total yards last year and was a state track finalist in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. Another youngster will also figure into the receiving mix in Dalton Norman (6-1, 160, So.). He started last year as a freshman and brings with him a talented gene pool as his older brother, Jacob who’s now at Northeastern State, owns the school receiving record. A senior-laden line brings size, experience and leadership to the offense in brothers Kaleb (5-11, 190) and Gervace (6-0, 230) Aguila and four-year starter Walker Graham (6-0, 225).

“We’ll run an up-tempo attack centered around an efficient passing game and quick-hitting running,” said Williams. “We’ll spread the ball around and look for mismatches.”

DEFENSE
“We’ll be experienced and talented on defense,” said Williams. “This will be the best defense I’ve put on the field in my four years here.”

A full set of returning linebackers is one reason for Williams optimism led by Brockup and Kaleb Aguila. Joining Aguila at an inside linebacker spot will be Jordan Lane (5-8, 205, Sr.), a tireless worker and devoted team leader according to Williams. With Brockup on the outside in the 3-4 defense will be Drake Leybas (5-9, 160, Jr.). Oliver will again put his sprinters speed to work in the secondary and Brodie Jenkins (6-2, 240, Sr.) will be back to anchor the defensive line. Williams is also excited about the addition of former Wagoner and Hilldale coordinator Travis Bryant to his staff to run this defense.

The Longhorns will see some new faces on the schedule this year with redistricting including Cascia Hall, Verdigris and perennial 3A power Berryhill.

“We were disappointed in last season’s record, but we don’t believe that one season defines a program,” said Williams. “We’re anxious to get back on the field with this tremendous group of seniors and return to our winning ways.”
